The head coach of national cricket team Pubudu Dassanayake returning to Canada on Wednesday for vacation as there are no international matches for Nepal at least for another 3 months. However, his contract is expiring on June and he may not return as cricket teacher as CAN have not decided about extension of his contract until now.

Pubudu's tenure is ending on this June after Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) briefly lengthened the contract for 3 months only. CAN General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel said that Coach is demanding very high amount i.e. $12000 per month matched up to to $8000 that he has been paid for 3 months in the extended agreement. Previously, CAN employed Pubudu by paying $5000 per month as salary.  Pubudu has coached Nepal since September 2011. He recently won Coach of the Year award at the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award.

Pyakurel said to Annapurna Post that, 'we have to pay the coach bigger amount if we want to renew the contract and we need additional source for that, so board meeting of CAN will decide about it'. Nepal's next international contest is Asian Games 2014 to be held in Incheon, South Korea from mid September.

Pubudu has been most thriving coach as Nepal goes through many achievements in his term by winning the Division four and three title along with ACC Trophy Elite championship. Moreover, Runner up in the ACC Twenty20 Cup and securing third place in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier are other successes that Nepal gained in his work period. Furthermore the ICC World Twenty20 Cup 2014 participation was the most momentous among all that brought ecstasy in Nepali people. Numerous people who not used to observe cricket, also stayed before television screen and thrilled by seeing Nepali player's performance at the global event. Moreover, Pubudu has arranged international match exposure for Nepali team and foreign league participation for Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla and Basanta Regmi in Canada as well as Anil Mandal, Pradeep Airee, Amrit Bhattarai and Subash Khakurel in Sri Lanka.

Earlier CAN promised Dassanayake for one year extension though the current rift in CAN which has two fractions between President Tanka Angbuhang panel and General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel panel is main raison d'ĂȘtre behind the indecisiveness about coach's future. At the moment, CAN provided one way ticket to coach so it is understandable that he may not return if the contract not extended.
Dassanayake is not also very happy to leave with vagueness as he told to Just Nepali Cricket. 'I am leaving for now and hope CAN will decide about my contract very soon. It is hard to work without contract and if they want me to work, they should decide about it soon'.

Dassanayake once said to cricinfo that he aimed Nepal to make top Associate team. "I will come up with certain plans because this is the time when Nepali cricket needs to gain the momentum. We need to have a good domestic structure and proper age-group cricket so that we can be above Ireland and Afghanistan in the men's and women's cricket" cricinfo quoted.

Dassanayake played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs between 1993 and 1994 for Sri Lanka. Then after, he represented Canada in the 2005 World Cup qualifier in Ireland, and the following year captained them in the Intercontinental Cup. He was appointed the head coach of Canadian national side in 2007 and helped them secure a place in the 2011 World Cup, and quit the coach's job.
