Nepal stunned defending champion

Nepal register 118 runs win against defending champion Hong Kong at the opening match of ACC Trophy Elite Cup Cricket Tournament at the Unity grounds in Kuwait.


After winning the toss, Nepal selected batting and scored good total of 236-7 in allotted 50 overs. After losing Mahesh Chhetri for 2 runs, Nepal recovered with the 118 runs partnership between Anil Mandal (72) and Shakti Gauchan (65) for 2nd wicket. Anil took 96-balls to hit eight fours and three sixes in his brilliant knock while Shakti plays patient knock struck six boundaries in his 93-ball innings. Skipper Paras Khadka (1) and Sharad Vesawkar (4) fail to make any impression. Mehboob Alam and Basanta Regmi scored 31 and 10 runs respectively. Dipendra Chaudhary and Binod Das remained unbeaten on 28 and 11 runs. For Hong Kong, Nadeem Ahmed took 3 wickets and Moner and Aizaz got 2 and 1 wicket.

Left arm pacer Mehboob Alam gave Nepal an ideal start to defend 238, dismissing both openers in his first two overs. Binod Das then demolish the off-stump of Husian Butt (15) to reduce the defending champions to 31-3 by the sixth over.
Mehboob also had dangerman Ilyas Gul (27) caught by Shakti at midwicket. Ilyas struck five fours in his 29-ball knock. Although Irfan Ahmed (19), Waqas Barkat (19) and Jawaid Iqbal (16) briefly frustrated the Nepali bowlers but never looked like chasing the overwhelming total. Hong Kong inning restricted on 118 runs in 33.3 overs. Anil Mandal declared Man of the match for his great batting. Nepal will face Oman in their second match.
