Nepal begin tournament with victory

Host Nepal inspired by captain Paras Khadka’s brilliant 69 in 66 balls knock win over Jersey by 6 wickets at the ICC World Cricket League Division V in Birendra Sainik Maha Vidyalaya Cricket Ground, Bhaktapur, Nepal. Batting first Jersey scored 174 all out in 44.5 overs. Opener Dean Morrison top scored 62 of 112 and 38 runs scored by SJ de la Haye. For Nepal, Shakti Gauchan took 2 wickets in 3.5 overs conceding 12 runs and Sanjam Regmi got 10-0-41-2 figure. Basanta Regmi, Mehboob Alam, Binod Das and Rahul B.K. shares one wicket each and two Jersey players face run out.

In second inning, Nepali opener troubled with some good attacking bowling from Jersey’s opening bowling pair and throw quick 2 wickets in 10.3 overs, when only 29 runs in board. No 3 batsmen Shakti Gauchan and Man of the match and captain Paras Khadka then start to steady their inning with slow run rate. After growing some handy partnership captain Paras and Shakti played handsome strokes around the ground and start getting momentum. The paird added 68 runs. After fall of Shakti Gauchan wicket, smart batsmen Sharad Vesawkar start the run chase along with captain. Vesawkar remained not out till the chase and made brilliant 33 along with six in the last ball and surpass the traget. Paras Khadka falls in 162 runs in board and then Gyanendra Malla and Vesawkar led the victory safely in 38 overs.


In another matches USA go down over Fiji by 285 runs in Lalitpur. Fiji won the toss and put USA to bat and post 353 for 8. Steve Massiah's 74 was the top score but the innings got its final thrust from Rashard Marshall, who smashed 61 off 28 balls with eight fours and four sixes. Timroy Allen also made 32 off 17 balls. Josefa Dabea took four wickets for Fiji conceded 84 in 8 overs. At second inning Fiji were always going to struggle to chase in a huge target and collapsing for 68 in 28 overs. Dabea made 13, and was the only batsman to get into double figures. Kevin Darlington, with 3 for 9 in six overs, and Imran Awan, who took 3 for 16, were USA's best bowlers.


Bahrain lost with Singapore by 126 runs at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Nepal. Electing to bat first, Singapore were given an encouraging start by openers Buddika Mendis and Chetan Suryawanshi. The pair added 95. However, Bahrain then hit back, courtesy Adil Hanif, Tahir Dar and Zafar Zaheer who grabbed seven wickets between them to limit Singapore to a chaseable 224 for 8. But their batsmen simply failed to measure up to Singapore's determined bowling display, as Anish Param and Jackie Manoj-Kumar, both left-arm spinners, grabbed three wickets each to skittle out Bahrain for 98.

Nepal will face Singapore on February 21 at Engineering cricket ground at Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Nepal. Likewise Jersey will face Fiji at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Nepal and Bahrain will compete with USA at Engineering Campus Ground, Lalitpur, Nepal.
