Left arm spinner Rahul B.K. grab seven wickets help to Nepal clinch the first ever championship trophy at the senior level here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium, Kirtipur.
Nepal’s victory was set up by Rahul’s excellent second spell that yielded all seven wickets for the spinner. Right-arm medium pacer Binod Das, back in the squad after being dropped against the same side on previous game, gave Nepal the breakthrough, dismissing Lennox Cush (10) in the fourth over. But Orlando Baker (49) and skipper Steve Massiah put on 81 run second wicket stand to strengthen their innings. The USA were looking set for a huge total at 141-2 by the 35.5 overs after Baker was run out by a quick throw from Gyanendra Malla. Second spell of Rahul collapses the USA inning and limited to 172 all out. Nepali team seems sharp in field and grabs all the catches.
In second inning, Newly found combination of opener as Anil Mandal and Mahesh Chhetri laid the foundation as they gave solid 85 runs stand for first wicket. Shakti Gauchan scored 23 runs and Sharad Vesawkar 11 runs. Middle order seems bit shaky but Gyanedra Malla (28 not out) and Mehboob Alam (17 not out) guided the team safely home. Alam struck a six and a four in the 47th over bowl by captain of USA and end match in style and provided Nepal to grab first ever-major trophy.
