ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier
2013/14
Just Nepali Cricket/January 12
Nepal is facing the UAE at the
first game of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2013/14 in Mainpower Oval,
Rangiora on Tomorrow morning. UAE and Nepal both reached the ICC World Twenty20
Cup, through the recently held qualifier tournament in the UAE. Therefore, we
can say, this is the tough encounter between two powerhouses of non-test
playing Asian nations.
Nepal always dreamt to play the ICC
World Cup and this tournament is just a step far from getting the much-awaited goal.
However, it is not easy but very sturdy tournament
itself as the other
participants are stronger than Nepal except Uganda, which is below Nepal in the
ranking.
Nepal looks confident against UAE
as they defeated them in the league round of the last ACC Trophy
Elite but tied the match in final. Nepal defeated them three times in Twenty20
format cricket since then. The defeats is causing headache for UAE and they are
planning to come hard against Nepal. The coach Javed Aqib is targeting Nepal
with their hidden strength of pace bowling. He said, ' We have a good seam attack which we
didn’t use fully in the recent World Twenty20 Qualifier in the Emirates. In New
Zealand, we may use them against teams that play our spinners well,
particularly Nepal.'
Nepal lost
the both official warm up matches against Namibia and Kenya however UAE won the
both against Netherlands and Uganda. UAE once played at the World Cup and they wants
to repeat that history via this qualifier. Thus, Nepal needs to be very careful
while playing against them as they finished third and missed World Cup spot by
low margin at the World Cricket League behind Ireland and Afghanistan. UAE is
playing very good in 50 over format and experts rating them as tournament favorite.
Yet, Nepal has own strength and hunger to reach big success. Therefore, it will
be very interesting and worth of watching game.
Team news:
Nepali team
got the good news that skipper Paras Khadka is back in the game and the coach
confirmed about his inclusion in this main encounter. However, fever of Subash
Khakurel caused him out of the game at least against UAE on Monday. Most of the
team member got rhythm by playing the matches in Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Paras said, 'We played good opponent of Sri Lanka and New Zealand so we can say
our practice has been good. We put hard work for this tournament and now its
time to convert it on performance'.
Probable playing
XI of Nepal:
Anil
Mandal, Mahesh Chhetri, Gyanendra Malla, Paras Khadka (Captain), Binod
Bhandari, Sharad Vesawkar, Sagar Pun, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Jitendra
Mukhiya/Sompal Kami, Avinash Karna
Mahesh
Chhetri may get another chance to establish himself in the big contest as he did
not execute well in practice and warm up matches. The team has another option to
include Prithu Banskota in place of Mahesh and give gloves to Binod Bhandari,
who used to be wicket keeper. For pacer, Jitendra may find place in playing set,
as he is very discipline in bowling and have ability to bowl Yorker in death
overs. For number three in batting, the coach may not wants to change the
Gyanendra's place for Sagar, because Gyanu is getting success in there and
Paras can't be shuffle from number four. Prithu and Pradeep Airee have to wait
for the chance, as Sagar is proving very handy with ball and bat.
UAE team:
Khurram Khan (captain),
Amjad Ali, Shaiman Anwar, Salman Faris, Nasir Aziz, Manjula Guruge, Amjad
Javed, Rohan Mustafa, Mohammed Naveed, Swapnil Patil, Ahmed Raza, Kamran
Shahzad, Vikrant Shetty, Shadeep Silva, Chirag Suri.
UAE may go with their winning combination they used
against Netherlands in the official warm up match. The game will start tomorrow
3:15 AM NST.
